There are many fantastic, knowledgeable, and passionate teachers trying their utmost but large classrooms lend themselves to a more disruptive environment because there are more pupils to manage. Large classes divide the teacher’s attention, and as a result, your child may never get ahead. Perhaps, the teachers are burnt out and your child is left confused, bored, or even overwhelmed.  

More recently, in August 2023, the proportion of top A*-A grades dropped from 35.9% to 26.5% amid a return to pre-pandemic era grading. Furthermore, there has been a 10% increase in the number of E or U (unclassified) grades. The learning environment in modern schools are often not academically rewarding, as not every student is motivated to do well. 

Some may say, “My child is motivated but they still can’t achieve the top grades.” This may be a result of teaching strategies in the school, the teacher’s inability to target the specific needs of a pupil, or time constraints. Many schools offer exam classes and revision sessions towards the end of the academic year, but is that enough? Does your child deserve better?  

If you wanted to lose weight the best approach would be to employ a dedicated personal trainer to assist you, particularly when you are at your lowest. Why not offer that opportunity to your child? Invest in their academic career to give them the best chance to succeed in their future.  

The solution is simple: they need to be taught by someone who knows what they’re doing in a structured process that creates discipline and routine. Effective time spent learning is superior to total hours spent.

Automation has become an increasingly significant factor in a variety of industries, and its impact on education is no exception. However, AI targets the masses rather than the individual, and as a result, there are several negative impacts: 

1. Often lacks meaningful feedback. AI is unable to scan facial expressions and body language to judge how pupils are responding to new learning. This is particularly important, as a pupil's strengths and weaknesses must be targeted for them to make effective progress. Also, without meaningful feedback and interaction, pupils may become less responsive and reflective in their learning. 
2. Requires the self-discipline of the learner to be successful. Without face-to-face communication, pupils may experience a lack of pressure, put off engaging with their studies, or abandon them completely. Pupils learning at home can be easily distracted without a dedicated tutor boosting motivation and keeping them on task. 
3. Are difficult to keep updated, many neglect new and current exam questions. Whereas, I analyse recent changes and respond to them in my lessons accordingly. Also, lessons are tailored (targeted) towards the pupil's needs to keep them challenged and engaged. 
4. Only provides general support, when dealing with pupils. It is important to address and challenge misconceptions to improve pupils understanding.

Which scenario will benefit your child the most?

The issue with solely relying on YouTube videos is that pupils gain a false sense of confidence. Many memorise a process and are then unable to apply this knowledge during the exam. This ‘short-term fix’ will create a significant problem when they are presented with an unfamiliar question. In turn, the added pressure and anxiety will have a knock-on effect on any remaining questions.

YouTube is good to supplement learning but should not be used to replace it as it lacks interactive teaching and personalised learning.
